Closed For Lunch
Three words. Handwritten. Taped slightly crooked to the glass.
She saw a sign on a door recently that stopped her in her tracks.
Three words. Taped slightly crooked to the glass.
Closed For Lunch.
No negotiation. No filter. No apology. The message said exactly what it meant and meant exactly what it said.
And something in her chest ached in a way she could not immediately explain.
Because she could not remember the last time she had closed for anything.
Not for lunch. Not for rest. Not for herself.
The door of her energy has been open for so long, to her children, her partner, her parents, her home, her endless list of obligations, that the idea of hanging a sign that says not right now felt like something available to everyone except her.
And if she is a Projector in Human Design, that is not just an emotional observation.
It is a design crisis.
What It Means To Be A Projector
In the IGNITE Her Frequencies™ framework, the Projector is one of the most gifted and most misunderstood types.
She is wired to see deeply. To guide. To read people and situations with a precision that others simply do not possess. She is here to lead, not through doing, not through generating endless energy, but through the quality of her awareness and the penetrating power of her insight.
But here is what makes her fundamentally different from every other type.
She does not have access to infinite energy.
She never did.
Her aura is focused and forward-facing. When she is living authentically and fully resourced it penetrates. It sees through to the heart of a person, what they actually need, what is truly holding them back, what they cannot yet see for themselves. People feel completely known in her presence. That is not a coincidence. That is her design working exactly as it was meant to.
But that aura has a condition.
It requires recognition to function at its highest level.
Recognition is not a luxury for the Projector. It is not ego or neediness or an unfortunate sensitivity. It is the energetic condition under which her gift actually works. When she is truly seen, when her abilities are acknowledged and her guidance is genuinely welcomed, she feels empowered in a way that is day and night from how she feels when she goes unrecognised. Her aura opens. Her penetrating clarity sharpens. The right people are drawn naturally into her field and she can see them with a precision that feels almost effortless.
When she is not recognised?
The aura depletes. The clarity dims. And she is left giving her gift into a void that does not know what to do with it.
The Scene Nobody Talks About
It is her rest day. Or it was supposed to be.
But the laundry needed doing. And her partner needed something. Then her teenage children, while fully capable and entirely able, need something too. And because she has spent so many years being the one who holds everything together, she did it. All of it. Without being asked. Without even questioning whether it was hers to do.
She convinced herself to continue. To keep going despite the inner resistance that was telling her loudly, clearly, persistently, in the language of her own exhaustion, that it was time to stop.
And then she wonders why the next morning she cannot get out of bed.
Why her thoughts feel like treacle. Why the simplest task feels mountainous. Why her body is staging what feels like a full protest against the day ahead.
It is not weakness. It is not laziness. It is not a midlife crisis or perimenopause or simply getting older. She has blown an internal fuse.
Because she was never designed to keep up with the Generators around her, and she needs to be careful of the borrowed energy she allows to run her narrative. She was never designed to run on borrowed energy from high-pressure and high-energy environments. And never designed to bow to the commitments and rhythms of other types as though their energy were hers to match, which can become a common characteristic of Projectors.
Her body is not failing her. It is protecting her from herself. And it will keep sending signals that grow louder and more insistent until she finally stops long enough to listen. Those signals can be utter exhaustion and mental fatigue.
The Not-Self Nobody Names
Here is also what happens to a Projector who chronically overrides her design. She becomes bitter.
Not dramatically. Not in a way she can always name or point to directly. But in the quiet accumulation of years spent giving from a well she never replenished. In the resentment that builds when she pours herself into everyone else and finds nothing waiting for her when she finally turns inward.
And here is the layer that makes it even more painful.
The people she overgives to in this depleted state may not even recognise her contribution. Because her aura — tired, scattered, running on empty — is no longer doing its job. It is no longer penetrating. No longer drawing the right people into her field. No longer broadcasting the signal that says I see you clearly and I can guide you.
So she gives. And it lands nowhere. And the recognition she needs, the recognition that is intrinsic to who she is and essential to her wellbeing, never comes. And the bitterness deepens. Not because she is doing anything wrong. Because she is doing everything against her design. In the wrong environments, with people who cannot see her. On borrowed energy that was never hers to spend.
The bitterness is not a character flaw. It is a signal. One that needs to be listened to.
It is her Projector design telling her with absolute clarity y, u are giving from empty. The people who love her and need her deserve the version of her that is rested, resourced, and fully present. That version only exists on the other side of the rest she keeps refusing to take.
What Honouring Your Projector Design Actually Looks Like
It starts with the radical and non-negotiable act of closing for lunch.
Of recognising that the people in her home who are fully capable of doing for themselves do not need her to do it for them. That her rest is not a negotiation. That the catnap, the siesta, the genuine pause, these are not indulgences. They are the maintenance that makes her gift possible. She needs to be supported.
Because here is the truth most Projectors never fully understand: by continuing to push through in her not-self, she is not just harming herself, but also withholding her gift from the people who genuinely need it. The person who cannot find their way forward without her objective clarity. The woman who cannot see her own pattern until a Projector names it for her. The leader who does not know how to use their energy until someone with a penetrating aura shows them the way.
Those people need her rested, not performing, not pushing through, and not convincing herself that one more thing will not cost her. They need the version of her that only shows up when she has actually stopped. Because a depleted Projector is not a giving Projector. She is operating from a withholding stance, and the world feels that difference even when she cannot feel it herself.
In her glorious natural state, she waits for the right invitation. She moves toward the environments and the people who genuinely recognise her. She allows herself to be drawn in, not driven, and when she arrives, she brings a quality of insight and guidance that years of exhaustion have been quietly burying.
The bitterness lifts not because life gets easier. But because she finally stops expecting herself to function like a Generator type she was never designed to be.
Here is what I want every Projector mom in midlife to understand. What you achieve in this next chapter, the depth of your impact, the quality of your relationships, the life you can build will depend entirely on being in the right company and the right environment. You do not need to work harder or keep pushing through. You do not need to convince yourself that rest is something you have not yet earned. Your body needs it and will dysregulate if you don’t listen to its warnings.
Choosing the right environments where your gift is recognised and welcomed is crucial to your happiness, and moving away, gracefully and without guilt, when it is not. Trusting your design enough to close the door when your body tells you it is time. Your aura is one of the most powerful things about you. And that is a beautiful thing!
But it only penetrates when it is rested. So go ahead and hang the sign, “Closed for lunch.” Not because the world can wait. Because the world desperately needs what only you offer, and that version of you only exists when you finally stop running in the opposite direction of your Human Design.
Love, luck & laughter ~ Lorraine ☘️

Here is the reframe most Projectors have never considered. When she pushes through her exhaustion and overrides her body's signal to rest, she is not being generous. She is withholding. The people who genuinely need her penetrating clarity, who cannot find their way forward without her objective guidance, well, they need her rested. They need the version of her that only shows up after she has closed for lunch. Her rest is not selfish. It is the most generous thing she can do for everyone who depends on her gift.
